Sharing Jesus with Confidence

Would you like to share your faith more naturally and confidently? Unsure where to begin?

Seeking and saving the lost is part of the process. You may be asking is it necessary to seek and save the lost. I do not think it is necessary to get into the kingdom of heaven. However I do think that the rewards of doing so is far greater than someone who just accepts the free gift of Christ.

The Belief of Jesus Christ and his words are absolutely paramount. The next step is to absolutely repent of your sins. You can't just say I repent. You have to acknowledge that you have done wrong things. Ask for forgiveness from the Lord. Then change any bad behaviors. Finally get baptized immediately. Over time the Holy Spirit will work through you and change you. It is an overwhelming feeling when you see it in work within your life.

Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Many people struggle with how to share the Gospel. It’s not that they don’t know or love God—they’ve just never been taught how to do it. If you’re looking to share the Gospel with confidence, keep reading.

As ambassadors of Christ, our mission is to preach, declare, and share His message of redemption wherever we go. This isn’t just something to be done in church or left to preachers and spiritual leaders—it’s the responsibility of every believer to let others know that God loves them and has a special gift for them. As 2 Corinthians 5:18 says, “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”

To reconcile means to bring back what was lost. You are God’s mouth, hands, and feet on this earth, and He wants to use you! The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association offers excellent resources for ministry and outreach projects.

What Is the Gospel?

The Gospel is called the Good News! In short, it’s the story of the birth, life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Gospel tells us that we cannot earn salvation; it is a gift given to us through Jesus’s sacrifice and finished work on the cross (John 19:30).

We receive salvation when we accept this gift. The Gospel of Jesus Christ reveals that, though we were once enemies of God, we are reconciled and adopted into God’s family through Christ’s blood (Romans 5:10; John 1:12).

Sharing the Faith

Some people feel they can’t effectively share the Gospel unless they have extensive Biblical knowledge or have attended an evangelism course. But sharing Christ is simpler than that—it can be as easy as giving someone an evangelistic pamphlet.

Sharing the Gospel should be a natural extension of your walk with the Lord. When you’ve discovered something extraordinary, you naturally want to tell others about it. Don’t be embarrassed to share the truth.

As the Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Billy Graham offers a great tool for sharing your faith called the Billy Graham Christian Workers Handbook. This book should be a part of every believer’s library.

Just Plant a Seed

The Bible tells us there is a time to plant. This is when you share the Gospel and leave people with something to ponder.

You may try to share the Gospel with someone who doesn’t seem interested. Don’t be discouraged; remember that the Word of God is living and powerful. What you share will take root in their heart and begin to work on them. God’s Word always accomplishes something!

Continue to pray that the Lord will soften their heart and draw them by His Spirit. You’ve done your part, and you can trust that the Lord will give the increase.

Bible Verses About Sharing the Gospel

  • Matthew 24:14: “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
  • Mark 16:15: “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’”
  • Psalm 96:3: “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”
  • Romans 1:16: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
  • 2 Timothy 3:16: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.”
  • Galatians 6:9: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”

God Will Lead and Guide You

It’s important to step back and allow God to do the work. When you share the Gospel, it speaks to the heart of the person you’re ministering to. The Spirit of God convicts hearts and makes them aware of their need for God.

A friend once witnessed to a man for several years with no apparent success. Later, the man became very ill, and as he lay on his bed, he saw a bright light and cried out to God. He recovered and told my friend, “I know there is a God!” When family and friends seem resistant to the Gospel, know that you’ve planted the seed, and God will bring the harvest.

How to See Opportunities to Share

Opportunities to share the Gospel can come when you least expect them—at a bus stop, in line at the store, or during a casual conversation. When someone begins to open up to you, that’s your chance to share the Gospel.

When I first started witnessing, I always carried a gospel tract. While it’s not necessary, I like to leave a tract because it gives the person something to read in the privacy of their home, especially if there wasn’t time to share the full Gospel.

Let Your Light Shine!

It’s crucial to live the life you’re professing. Walk the talk. Do people see kindness, patience, and love in you? You are the book that others will read, so make sure it’s a bestseller!

You’ll find many opportunities to minister to your co-workers. I call this “relationship evangelism” because you have the time to get to know people, talk about their families, and build trust.

Once you’ve told someone you’re a Christian, they’ll watch you closely. It’s more important to live a life that glorifies God than to quote a million scriptures. We are to be living epistles, an open book that anyone can read and see Christ.

The Sinner’s Prayer

“Father, forgive me for all my sins. Come into my life, wash me with Your blood, and be my Lord and Savior.” That’s it! There are variations of the prayer, but it doesn’t need to be long or drawn out. Pray as the Lord leads you. If the person is struggling with bondage or addiction, have them pray for deliverance and healing. Always be led by the Holy Spirit, and you’ll see God do great things.

When to Pray

You’ll know when a person is ready to receive the Lord. You might see a change in their expression, or even tears in their eyes. When someone asks, “How do I receive the Lord?” first pray for God to reveal Himself to them. Then, lead them in a prayer of salvation. While there’s no set prayer to receive the Lord, many use the Sinner’s Prayer as a guide.

What to Share

When God gives you the opportunity to share the Gospel with someone, here’s what to focus on:

  1. God loves them. The most important thing you can tell someone is that God loves them (John 3:16). Preaching hellfire and brimstone won’t draw anyone to God.
  2. We are all sinners. Let them know that you, too, were a sinner and that our sins separate us from God (Romans 3:23).
  3. The power of repentance. Share the necessity of repentance for salvation.
  4. Salvation through Jesus Christ. Make it clear that salvation is only through Jesus (Acts 4:12).
  5. Invitation to receive Christ. Ask them if they’d like to pray to receive Jesus as their Savior.

By following these steps, you can confidently share your faith and help others discover the life-changing love of Jesus Christ.
