From Broken to Beautiful
Today's Devotional
When Jesus fed the five thousand, He started with just five loaves and two fish (John 6:1-14). It was a small offering in the face of an overwhelming need. Yet, in His hands, it became more than enough. Jesus broke the bread, blessed it, and multiplied it, demonstrating that scarcity is no obstacle for the God of abundance.
A similar theme is reflected in the Japanese art of kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired with gold, turning cracks into unique features of beauty and strength. What once seemed ruined becomes more valuable than ever. In both the miracle of the loaves and the art of kintsugi, we see that God is not limited by what we lack or what is broken in our lives.
When Jesus told His disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted” (John 6:12), it wasn’t just about avoiding waste; it was a lesson about His power to transform and use every part of our story. No brokenness, no scarcity, and no failure is beyond His ability to redeem.
Today, consider the areas in your life where you feel inadequate or broken. Bring them to Jesus, trusting that in His hands, they can become something beautiful and abundant. He promises, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Reflect & Pray
What in your life feels too small or broken to be useful? How might you trust God to transform it into something valuable?
Lord, I bring You my broken pieces and my scarcity. I trust that in Your hands, they will become more than enough.
