Today's Insights

In Matthew 20, Jesus redefines greatness by introducing the concepts of "servant" (diakonos) and "slave" (doulos). He teaches that true leadership is found in serving others, turning conventional views of authority upside down. In God's kingdom, greatness is measured by one's willingness to serve and prioritize the needs of others.

Today's Devotional

When Brad relocated to a new city, he sought out a church to worship. After attending services for a few weeks, he approached the pastor, expressing his desire to serve in any capacity needed. He said, "I just want to 'reach for the broom.'" He began by assisting with setting up chairs and cleaning the restrooms. Later, the church family discovered that Brad was also gifted in teaching, but he was willing to serve in any way.

In Matthew 20, Jesus teaches His disciples about servanthood. When James and John, along with their mother, requested positions of honor beside Jesus in His kingdom, the other disciples became indignant. Jesus explained that leadership in His kingdom is not about exercising authority over others but about serving them. He said, "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant."

Brad's approach to service—"reaching for the broom"—illustrates the heart of a servant leader. He expressed his life's passion for God by saying, "I want to serve for the glory of God, for the good of the world, and for my own joy." This mindset reflects the essence of servant leadership: serving others selflessly and with joy.
